About North of Polite

Plain talk. Real issues. A more informed Canada.

North of Polite is an independent Canadian source for news analysis, commentary and plain-language explanations of the issues affecting Canadians.

We believe people shouldn’t need a political science degree—or an afternoon sorting through slogans and outrage—to understand what is happening in their country.

Our approach is simple: look at the evidence, check the sources, provide the context, and explain what we find in ordinary language.

We cover Canadian politics, the economy, national unity, Indigenous and Métis issues, international affairs and the stories that affect everyday Canadians. Sometimes the subject is serious. Sometimes there is room for humour. Either way, the facts come first.

How We Work

We try to separate fact, allegation, analysis and opinion so readers can tell the difference.

We use credible and, whenever possible, primary sources. We challenge claims regardless of who makes them. When something is uncertain, we say so. When there is another reasonable side to an argument, we include it.

North of Polite isn’t here to tell Canadians what to think.

We’re here to give them enough reliable information to think for themselves.
